Type of Debate:  ELECTION OF SPEAKER

Title:	Regarding motion to elect the Speaker of Lok Sabha, the motion was
adopted and Shri P.A.  Sangma is elected as Speaker of the House.

MR. SPEAKER: So, now we can proceed to the next business. The next business is
the election of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. There are a  number  of  motions
which have been received and we shall take up these motions. I first call upon
Shri Murasoli Maran to move the motion which is standing in his name.

"That Shri Purno Agitok Sangma, a Member of this House

be chosen as the Speaker of this House."

be chosen as the Speaker of this House."

SHRI GIRIDHAR GAMANG (KORAPUT): Sir, I second the motion.

MR. SPEAKER: I shall first put the motion moved by Shri Murasoli Maran to  the
vote of the House.

The question is:

"That Shri Purno Agitok Sangma, a Member of this House

be chosen as the Speaker of this House."

The motion was adopted.

MR. SPEAKER: The motion is carried and Shri Sangma is declared elected as  the
Speaker of this House.

Now,  I would request the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition
and the Leaders of other Parties and Groups to kindly conduct the  Speaker  to
the Chair and help him to take over.

(Shri  Purno Agitok Sangma was conducted to the Chair by the Leader of
the House Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Leader of the Opposition Shri
P.V. Narasimha Rao and Leaders of some other Parties and Groups.)
