04.12.91 *t10 (iii) Need to provide Adequate Assistance for Relief Operations In Drought Affected Areas In Maharashtra, Particularly In Marathwara and Vidarbha Regions SHRI ANKUSHRAO RAOSAHEB TOPE (Jalna): Most of the districts of Maharashtra, particularly Marathwada and Vidharbha, are in the grip of an acute drought. The Kharif crops have withered away as there were no rains this year. The rabi crops have also failed. Hence a large number of people are migrating to Bombay for getting employment. Hence there is an urgent need to provide employment under the Employ- ment Guarantee Scheme. Though the Government of Maharashtra is taking action, Central assistance is also needed. I request the Central Government to provide adequate amount of assistance to the State Government for carrying out the relief work in the drought-affected areas.
